I’m used to combing through After Effects tutorials on YouTube. There’s also a part of me that enjoys structured learning with the possibility of gaining a valuable skill. That’s my goal for this After Effects for Beginners Course. To teach a valuable skill.
Further down in the post you’ll find more information about the course and I’m always going to be improving these online classes. It’s a new adventure, but it’s exciting to see the potential and connecting with a great community of people online in the instructor Facebook groups and discussion areas.
For anyone reading this, I’ve setup a coupon for the course for only $19! If you read my articles here or are on YouTube, you’ll get this discount.

Is This After Effects Course Only for Beginners?
For this particular course, I structured it to go directly from the beginning. I didn’t try to combine all of the information into a one-size-fits-all approach. Yes, it’s for beginners and there’s a reason for that.
In the future I will be coming out with a more advanced After Effects course. There are so many topics to teach with the software that I could probably create 20 different courses with many hours of material for each one, but I am going to focus more on individual learning levels.
Here are some examples of what’s in the course:
- Complete setup of the After Effects software
- Critical preferences for optimal computer operation
- Working between After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- The importance of keyboard shortcuts
- Starting in 3D
Same as with Photoshop, I’m on YouTube and other platforms, watching a ton of tutorials and videos about motion graphics and visual effects. With all of the Adobe applications, After Effects is by far my favorite to both learn and teach. It’s funny how having a passion helps you know what you love to do, huh?
Similar to what I mentioned in my previous Photoshop course post, there are excellent people out there teaching After Effects. Yes, they’d probably even do it for free if they could, but there’s something very valuable about being able to do what you love and earn a living.
Why I Should Learn After Effects for Beginners?
People that are used to making videos and working in software like Premiere Pro or even Photoshop can take their skills to the next level. Imagine using the knowledge from Photoshop and animating anything with your projects. Any layer, graphic, or even video footage can be animated.
Adobe After Effects is an industry-leading software and there are even high budget films that use it for large budget films. Crazy that we have access to the same tools, right? If you really dive in deep, you’ll understand how some of your favorite movies achieve the results they do with visual effects and motion graphics.
You’ll also be acquiring a chargeable skill. What does that mean? Well, you’ll have the knowledge to charge customers for using the effects in your video work or online. With video being a huge hit for 2016, it’s inevitable that next year will bring even more value to the media. Adobe has made it even easier to learn with their own support and discussion around the web.
How is This Different Than Other After Effects Courses Online?
It depends on how you’d like to look at it. My goal for the course is to have the most effective and useful beginners course on Udemy. Hence the title, The Most Comprehensive After Effects Course for Beginners. I think it’s important to differentiate After Effects for beginners and more skilled users of the software. There’s enough to teach with After Effects that one could have 10 courses on Udemy and still need to add more to make someone an expert at the software.
In addition to my YouTube tutorials and other work to complete, I’ll be updating this course more frequently since I’m hoping it will be more comprehensive. So, for those who purchase the course early with about 70 lectures, eventually it will get to 100+ and beyond.
Why Create Another Course to Learn After Effects on Udemy?
We all have our own unique teaching style. Someone might find my motion graphics for beginners on Udemy different than another instructor that teaches motion graphics. Eventually, they can land on YouTube and learn from the way I like to teach the subject.
I’ve also started recording my tutorials in 4K and there aren’t many other people doing that. Maybe people will enjoy the higher resolution. In short, I am different and other people might actually connect with me better than someone else. I know I do with other teaching methods.
Are You Thinking of Making Other After Effects Courses on Udemy?
Yep! With this being my second course, I don’t plan to go anywhere else. I have considered diversifying and putting some of my content on Skillshare. They have a cool community and events you can participate in to help get more students.
It’s also important to note that you should be using your efforts in different areas. I mean, what if Udemy or some other platform failed tomorrow and that’s where all of your income came from? Pretty scary, but we have to be realistic.
Remind Me of the Price of this After Effects Course?
As of November 2016, the price is set at $195. Some of you may think that the cost is absurd. But, from time to time Udemy runs very special deals offering courses for $19. If you get on the platform at the right time, you’ll find this 90% discount. That aside, even going through a course like this one that teaches motion graphics, you’ll earn far more than this if you put the work into practice. You could easily land a job with a client or work with someone and give them a more professional looking video.
